Gero Nova Alpha Lipoic Acid
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a powerful vitaminlike
enzyme found in every cell of our bodies.
Because it is both water and fat soluble, ALA
is considered the “universal” antioxidant and
is a powerful free radical scavenger at the
cellular level. ALA has also been described
as a “network” antioxidant because of its
unique ability to enhance other antioxidants.
It directly recycles the metabolic lifespan of
Vitamin C and enzyme CoQ110 and indirectly
renews vitamin E, enhancing the effectiveness of all
these antioxidants. By reducing cellular oxidation,
ALA helps minimize systemic inflammation, which is
associated with all the chronic degenerative diseases of aging,
such as heart disease cataracts, Parkinson’s disease, as well as
declines in energy, muscle strength, brain function and immunity.
Researchers are also exploring is potential as a cancer-preventing
agent.
ALA is one of the few substances that can cross the blood/brain
barrier. This increases the intracellular levels of glutathione, an
antioxidant that protect the brain from free radical damage. Low
levels of glutathione are associated with an increased incidence
of strokes, dementia and Parkinson’s disease. ALA also stabilizes
blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin activity and increasing
glucose tolerance. Only the natural R-Lipoic Acid form of ALA
is used in GeroNova products. Most ALA products today are
a mixture of R-Lipoic Acid and the synthetic S-Lipoic Acid, a
substance that is a by-product of chemical synthesis. Because RLipoic
Acid is more readily absorbed, many researchers believe
it is responsible for the many beneficial effects attributed to
ALA. GeroNova R-Lipoic Acid is formulated using a unique
stabilization process that ensures maximum stability and
bioavailability.
