What Makes New ChapterĀ® Unique
(and Why It Is Important To You)
New Chapter Vitamins and Minerals Are Made From 100% Probiotic Nutrients, and their Supercritical Therapy herbal products feature the innovation of supercritical extraction: Super pure, super potent, broad spectrum, and extracted gently without the use of high heat or harsh industrial solvents.
New Chapter offers only probiotic (or cultured) vitamins and minerals. New Chapter vitamins and minerals are 100% vegetarian and 100% Probiotic Nutrients. The herbs that accompany their Probiotic Nutrients and comprise their other herbal formulations are chosen by Paul Schulick, a leading herbal researcher, author, and lecturer in integrative medicine. In addition, every single New Chapter vitamin and mineral is dual-cultured with four strains of beneficial probiotics in certified organic non-GMO soy. Their formulation philosophy is simple: "We deliver the Wisdom of Nature." New Chapter acknowledges that the "orthomolecular" or "mega-potency" approach is popular within the natural products industry, but they respectfully reject it. New Chapter rejects the idea that vitamins and minerals should be isolated and compounded in huge, unnatural doses.
Why is this important? First, foods are made more biologically "active" or powerful by probiotic culturing. For example, their Probiotic Selenium is dual-cultured and delivered as part of a matrix of whole foods. Laboratory tests have determined that New Chapter's Probiotic Selenium is up to 64 times more anti-oxidative than either selenomethionine or sodium selenite, at the same time demonstrating no clinical toxicity.
Second, cultured foods are more bio-available. You can eat all the nutrients you want, but they don't do you any good unless you can digest and absorb them. New Chapter's probiotic process, using the correct nutritional yeast and flora to culture the nutrients (think milk to yogurt, raw soy beans to miso), does our work for us and makes it very easy to digest the food and have its nutrients bio-available. As everyone knows and feels, it's easier to digest the nutrients from yogurt than from milk, and New Chapter's Probiotic Nutrients use this traditional biotechnology.
New Chapter's Supercritical Herbal Extraction Process
Great extracts start with great fresh herbs. That's why they have their own organic spice estate in Costa Rica where they sustainably grow ginger and turmeric. They employ a process called "supercritical" extraction. This process uses concentrated carbon dioxide (CO2) to dissolve and extract the herb's lipophilic constituents. No chemical solvents or high temperatures are used.
This innovative extraction process yields a superior herbal extract that is highly concentrated, with up to 250 pounds of fresh herbs reducing to just 1 pound of supercritical extract. This Supercritical process also produces an extremely broad representation of the herbs lipophilic (oils, fatty acids, etc.) constituents. Some of the most precious and necessary plant ingredients in such important herbs as ginger, turmeric, Holy Basil, evening primrose, saw palmetto, valerian and rosemary come from these lipophilic constituents. New Chapter's supercritical extracts are super pure, super potent and broad spectrum, capturing the healing essences of the botanical raw material.
Why does this matter? Conventional extraction processes (not used by New Chapter) may result in extracts that: (1) have some chemical solvent residue, (2) have been temperature stressed or damaged, (3) can have distorted or altered plant constituents that are delicate in nature, (4) are standardized to a single molecule, to the sacrifice of the complexity of the whole herb, and (5) can be chemically unstable. New Chapter uses a supercritical process to create an extract that will have the desired broad-spectrum constituents delivered in the purest fashion without harmful pollutants.
Committed to Supporting and Protecting the Environment.
New Chapter's Costa Rican ginger and turmeric farm, Luna Nueva, is a model of what sustainable organic farming can and should be. This farm rests on the edge of the beautiful, pristine Children's Rain Forest in Costa Rica and has been deemed a world model for Organic Sustainable Rainforest Agriculture. They also participate in the Convention on Biological Diversity through their tamanu oil partners in the island nation of Vanuatu.
