Light Grey Celtic® is our original salt. Known in France as “sel gris”, or grey salt, Light Grey Celtic® is what our founder Jacques DeLangre named the salt when he started bringing it to USA in the mid-1970s. He would use for his naturally leavened bread and to share with his friends and community. There was no access to unrefined sea salt in USA before Jacques noticed this and began to import. Harvested with simple three ingredients sun, wind, and human skill, high tides of the sea could be harnessed and evaporated to life preserving salt. The design of the salt flats in France were created by the Celts that had settled the region 100s of years before, and resemble a Celtic knot, hence the name “Celtic Sea Salt”. This name now represents our brand and attaches to more salts from all over the planet that have similar harvesting methods and characteristics. For instance Celtic Sea Salt Makai Pure comes from Hawaii, the Gourmet Kosher comes from Guatemala, the Celtic Kosher is from Colima, Mexico, and the Pink Sea Salt comes from Spain.
Light Grey Celtic® is the ideal staple. The Light Grey Celtic® Grinder comes filled and is refillable, and grinds the salt out fast and fine. You can make this moist, coarse salt handy at the table. The mini grinder is very handy when going out to eat or for travel. All of our grinders are free of metal to avoid corrosion with the moist salt.
